Marrakech to Erg Chigaga tour – Kasbah of Telouet – Aït Ben Haddou

The itinerary makes you go throught the Atlas mountains. You mark many stops to enjoy landscapes.

After crossing the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, which rises to 2,260 meters above sea level in the High Atlas, you head for the Kasbah of Telouet. Built in the XVIII and XIX centuries, the Kasbah of Telouet is known to have been the last home of Pasha Glaoui. The kasbah is located about 140 km from Marrakech. Once the visit of the Kasbah of Telouet finished, you continue your 4×4 trip to Erg Chigaga. Near Ouarzazate, you stop to visit the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou.

Aït Ben Haddou is a site with typical southern Moroccan architecture. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou is a set of earthen constructions, surrounded by walls. You take lunch in Aït Ben Haddou before continuing to the desert towards Ouarzazate and Agdz.

Your Marrakech Sahara trip passes by the city of Ouarzazate. After a break there, you head into the Anti-Atlas to the village of Agdz.

You spend the night in the village of Agdz, in a typical riad.

From Agdz to the Erg Chigaga dunes

On the second day of this Marrakech to Erg Chigaga 4×4 desert trip, direction Zagora.

The trip continues in the beautiful Draa Valley. Enjoy panoramic views on the palm grove, the mountains and typical villages! Lunch is planned in the city of Zagora. After this break, you continue your way to Mhamid El Ghizlane. The village is at the gateway to the desert and the last oasis in the Draa Valley.

Once arrived at Mhamid, you take the direction of the great dunes of Erg Chigaga. You spend about 2 hours on the track in the Sahara before arriving in Erg Chigaga.

You arrive in the afternoon, then you enjoy camel ride for sunset in the big dunes of Erg Chigaga. After that a dinner is served in the camp. Listen to the traditional sahrawi music around a campfire and undrer a starry sky in the evening. You spend a night in a desert camp in Erg Chigaga during this tour from Marrakech.

Erg Chigaga great dunes – lake Iriqui – Tazenakht – Marrakech

After breakfast, you go for the last day of the Marrakech to Erg Chigaga desert tour 3 days.

You leave Erg Chigaga and its big dunes. The next stop is the Lake Iriqui which is dry today. But the lake is located in the national park of Iriqui where the fauna and flora are preserved.

After this interesting visit, you pass on the track until Foum Zguid. Then head for Tazenakht and its carpet cooperatives! You enjoy tasty lunch there.

After Tazenakht, you pass near Ouarzazate before starting the trip in the High Atlas mountains. You arrive in Marrakech in the end of the afternoon.
